Can you spare $20 right now?
This money is to help a man and his wife secure an apartment in Charlotte, NC.
I first met Donald "Bongo" Stackhouse a couple of months ago. At the time, he was living at a rooming house. Since then, the situation has become unlivable due to the behavior of other tenants, and he's given notice he'll be vacating at the end of this month. His wife is about to join him from Charleston, SC, and Bongo is desperate to find a place to live.
He's located a moderately priced, furnished house apartment (the residential property contains three separate apartments) with a rent he's confident he can afford. However, he doesn't have the two month's rent that is due at signing. $950 is due, right now he's $700 short.
Here's a voicemail of Bongo's situation in his own words:
To verify the details I've spoken with the landlord who owns the property. She initially agreed to hold the apartment until May 27th, but may hold it a few days longer if she's assured he has enough for the deposit. I'll be accompanying Bongo to deliver any money raised.
Will you please help? You're under no obligation to do so. There's no moral imperative to help Bongo and his wife. And there are no doubt thousands of other needs throughout our region and city. This is just one of them. But collectively we can impact people's lives–even if just one couple at a time.
Please help. Maybe you only have $5. Perhaps you can spare $100. Everything counts.
